The 2014 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup will tip
off on April 23 at the Filoil Flying V Arena of San Juan.
Thus far a total of 21 teams – with a probability of
a 22nd team joining – are participating in the summer’s biggest and
most exciting college basketball tournament.
With the odd number of squads in the pre-season
tourney, the schools have now been bracketed in three groups.
Group A

The probable 22nd team is SWU Cobras.
Not participating in this year’s summer tournament
are the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the Arellano University Chiefs.
Format:
The tournament is a single-round robin elimination
round with teams only playing those in their group.
The top two teams per group and the two best
third-placers (based on quotient) will advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, teams will be ranked from first
to eighth places applying the win-loss record and the quotient system.
Teams will play a knock out game based on the
following match-ups:
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5
In the semis, a knockout game will be played based on
the following match-ups:
Winner of 1-8 vs. Winner of 4-5
Winner of 2-7 vs. Winner of 3-6
The winner will advance to the knockout round.
Another difference for this year is teams will play
fewer matches and the tournament will end a week earlier.
