BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Who is this coach....

This school is losing players fast. Not to injury, piracy, or even graduation. But because of their head coach. Several players in the last several years never even bothered to finish their max playing years. In fact, he recently lost one because this player couldn't take his needling and supposed two-facedness anymore. During the last Filoil tournament, this player nearly led his team to a come-from-behind win but he missed a free crucial freethrow that hurt their chances in coming away with a W. As soon as the player missed a free throw, this coach turned to his bench and said, "Choker. What a choker." The rest of the team shook their heads in collective disbelief. So much for Mr. Positivity or Mr. Encouragement.
