BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Ozil watch: Arsenal 3 vs Sunderland 1

The German midfielder made his debut with the Gunners last Saturday and he was a big part in his new team's 3-1 win over unlucky Sunderland (that saw a Jozy Altidore strike cancelled by a dumb referee). Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger pronounced himself happy with Ozil's debut despite being weakened by the stomach bug. "Outstanding," was the word the Frenchman used to describe Ozil's performance.

And here are Ozil's match stats:
Passes: 79
Passing accuracy: 89.9%
Long passes: 2
Short passes: 77
Duels won: 5
Duels lost: 4
Aerial duels won: 0
Aerial duels lost: 0
Recoveries: 5
Assists: 1
