BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

On FEU's Big Three of Terrence Romeo, RR Garcia and Mike Tolomia

The way Far Eastern University’s Mike Tolomia, RR Garcia, Terrence Romeo and are playing, it reminds me of that old Golden State Warriors trio of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin that was known then as Run-TMC. In an earlier Tweet, I wondered if they were like the old Detroit Pistons' Isaiah Thomas, Vinnie Johnson and Joe Dumars except those guys were also terrific defenders while FEU's guard corps are noted scorers, hence, the G-State analogy.

So how about we call these guys Run-MRT (Mike, RR & Terrence)?

In three matches for the 3-0 Tamaraws, this is what the trio are averaging:

Terrence Romeo – 21.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists
RR Garcia – 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists
Mike Tolomia – 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists

The trio accounts for 60% of their team’s offense as well as 32 of their 48 team assists. Amazing.
