BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

At the set of Blue Eagle 40: with Bo Perasol, Fille Cainglet & Alyssa Valdez

Blue Eagle 40 has been something that has been percolating in my mind since last year. After the five-peat and the increased awareness and coverage of other sports that now was the time to do this. Why is it called 'Blue Eagle 40'? Well, the 'Blue Eagle' is kind of obvious while the '40' is that it's a 40-minute talk show about Ateneo sports. It's like a basketball game where you have 40 minutes; hence, '40'. Every week, we will talk, dissect, debate, and analyze everything Ateneo sports. Sometimes we will have guest; sometimes we won't. Every ep will air over ateneo.edu and be uploaded on YouTube, Vimeo, iTunes. We're also working on the livestreaming.

For our first episode, we had the 36th head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles -- Bo Perasol. We talked about his transition from the pros to college, the Blue Eagle summer, the pullout from the summer leagues, the injuries, the recruiting, and if he is having fun and a whole lot more. Support and cheer the man! OBF! This ep will air on Wednesday, June 12.

For the second episode, we had Fille Cainglet and Alyssa Valdez of the Ateneo Women's Volleyball Team. In this ep we talked about the loss to NU in the V-League finals, Jaja Santiago making volleyball and Philippine sports history, if the tag of 'Fab Five' a burden, the rise of women's volleyball, and more.

With the talented crew working behind Blue Eagle 40. I have a bunch of sophomore Comm majors who make all this easier and possible. Thanks a bunch, guys!

Who will we guest in the third episode? Frank Golla, Juami Tiongson and JP Erram. Then in succeeding eps, we will have the Ateneo Men's Football Team's Yu Murayama and Mikko Mabanag, the Ateneo Men's Baseball Team with Matt Laurel and company and more.

OBF!!!!!!
