BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Another piece on the Ateneo loss to UE


A wake up call or blood in the water?

The 14-game double round elimination of a UAAP Men’s Basketball tournament is perilous. Any loss is potentially a disaster in the making. With the escalation of the recruiting wars, anyone can beat anyone on any given day. You still have the traditional powers but this season there is parity between the teams than ever. At this stage of the competition, five of the eight teams are in the running for the coveted college hoops crown.

And that brings me to the 77-75 loss by the Ateneo Blue Eagles to the University of the East Red Warriors. READ MORE.
