BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Bought Jack McCallum's book on the 1992 US Dream Team

Bought the latest book from someone I idolize as a writer -- Jack McCallum of Sports Illustrated. His book Unfinished Business: On and off the court with the 1990-91 Boston Celtics has probably influenced more than any other sports book. His second NBA-themed book, 07 Seconds or less: My season on the bench with the runnin' and gunnin' Phoenix Suns was a wonderful return to pro hoops (and improves on what he started with Unfinished Business). When I read the excerpt of the new book, Dream Team, in Sports Illustrated, I got excited. Not just about reliving a great era but because I was eager to see how McCallum put things together. Got my copy of the book at Page One at Times Square in Hong Kong for HK$279 (Php1,526). Looking forward to reading the entire thing after which I will review it.

  2. Thanks. I'm looking forward to your review of the book. I heard it's great.

There is also a video celebrating the 20th year since the 92 Dream Team, right?
