Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Two Sports Illustrated covers featuring LeBron James & Penny Hardaway

Here are two covers of Sports Illustrated magazine present and past. I got the mag (the image above) the other week as I followed with great interest the NBA Finals matchup between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma Thunder. When I saw the issue on the stands, I remembered an issue I bought ages ago (and I still have it). One with then-Orlando Magic super guard Penny Hardaway who used to sky with the greatest of ease before injuries hobbled him. The similarities are uncanny not to mention both players -- LeBron and Penny -- are in Florida-based teams. But what photos! Stupendous shots that I wish I took myself.
