BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

A little reunion at Singapore

We're at Singapore to cover the Loyola Meralco Sparks-Geylang United match. With some free time on our hands, we went to Orchard Road to do a little sight seeing and some shopping. We grabbed a bite at Sarpino's and got an extra free slice of pizza! I took Cedelf and Brosi to my usual Orchard Road haunts -- Goal@313 (a fantastic football store), HMV, and Kinokuniya. At Goal@313, picked up jerseys of Hoffenheim, Boca Juniors, and Liverpool (gray). Speaking of jerseys, the one I am wearing in the picture -- Portugal's away shirt -- is an amazing product of Nike's just like the other Euro kits. It's amazing how this one Portugal shirt (just like all the others) are each made of 13 recycled bottles! That means each shirt is made of 100% dri-ft recycled polyester and 23% lighter than the average materials used for kits. And right before dinner, we went to Kinokuniya, got Graham Hunter's Barca (an excellent book).

Here's the reunion I was talking about. With Cedelf and Fabius Chen of the Straits Times over dinner at Medzs. The three of us covered the 2010 Suzuki Cup in Vietnam and we remained friends since then. The only one missing was British writer Mike Church!

Had chicken paella for dinner. At Medzs, they give you a card that the various eateries swipe at a reader for every order of food and/or drinks you make. Then you pay when you're done eating. Cool and simple concept. Now I like the chicken paella. Just a little lacking in taste.
