BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

With AKTV, Younghusbands hope to spread the gospel of the beautiful game

For James and Phil Younghusband, life has turned 180° for them. The two started out on their journey with the Chelsea Football Club’s Youth Academy. Incredibly, nearly 10 years later, as they finished Year One of the Younghusband Football Academy, the national football team mainstays signed on as Football Ambassadors for AKTV and have reconnected with the club of their youth in the Philippines of all places.

In a simple press luncheon held at Masas in Greenbelt 2, AKTV head of sports Vitto Lazatin said that the country’s newest sports superstation’s mission “is to bring sports to every television set in every country and to make sports bigger than it currently is. We have an excellent opportunity to elevate sports now that what we’re showing is available on free television.”
