BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Barely five years after he last laced his boots for the national team, Andres Gonzales is still a threat.

Stallion FC head coach Ernie Nierras’ game plan was simple. Stop Gonzales. “You stop him and you stop that flow of the ball to their forwards and wingmen.”

Even the Chairman of the United Football League Santi Araneta concurs. “He’s one of the most creative midfielders in local football,” observed Araneta. “He’s still very good.”

Global’s blitzkrieg smashes Army 3-nil

Rumors of Global’s demise have been premature.

After barely making it to the knockout stages after finishing third in Group C competition, the defending cup champions put on a dazzling show of force to send the second seed packing from the tournament.

Army finished second in the rankings with an unblemished slate, one of two clubs that was unscored upon in three matches. They had thoroughly destroyed their competition en route to the Round of 16.

It took Global only 20 minutes to shatter the illusion of invincibility.
