BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Younghusband brothers, Azkals, not Nepal put on a show

Younghusband brothers, Azkals, not Nepal put on a show

Phil and James Younghusband turned the international friendly between the Philippines and Nepal into their own personal showcase during an emphatic 4-0 win at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium last October 11, 2011 that closed the Azkals’ 2011 campaign.

Phil scored a brace (’17 & ’55) while James (’29) barged into the score sheet with a cracking volley to put the visiting Gorkhalis, as the Nepalese team is nicknamed, in a deep 3-nil hole. And for good measure to show critics that he can pass the ball some, Phil latched on to a Dennis Cagara cross in the 89th minute before setting up a trailing Matthew Hartmann who could do no wrong with his scorcher of a goal.
