BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

More student-athlete blues (or PI, ka. Benta ka naman, eh!)

Who is this college basketball coach who in his last game accused one of his star players of throwing a game inside the dugout? This player, who did very well in this year's campaign was so incensed that he cussed his coach and angrily defended himself against the accusation. People thought a fight would break out but the coach instead left the dugout. But he is not the only coach to have done so this season. There's another who lost his team in the first round and who also did not help his cause one bit by accusing everyone including bench players of throwing games.
