BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

DLSU's football protest is denied and other results from the football competition of the 16th University Games

The protest by De La Salle University regarding the non-call by the referee regarding a UNO-R player who blocked Green Archer keeper Patrick Deyto's kick was denied. The letter above was sent to DLSU head coach Hans Smit who in turn showed it to me. The DLSU Green Archers minus three starters will play the Dipolog Memorial Medical Center team that not only beat Ateneo de Manila University in a come from behind 2-1 win but they also shocked UAAP defending champion University of the Philippines with a 3-0 win today at the Villareal Stadium.

Other football results today:

Women's Football
De La Salle University def. Ateneo de Manila University 1-0

Men's Football
Ateneo de Manila University def. University of San Carlos 3-1
College of Saint Benilde def. University of Northern Philippines 7-2
Dipolog Memorial Medical Center def. University of the Philippines 3-0

  4. Must've been one BAD non-call to set them off like that.

Also, nice grammar, Mr. Tournament Manager. Keep it up, and you might just be promoted to the second grade.

  7. one game is not enough!!! the pff should act on this, basing on the refs report, and levy additional penalties on mr deyto. spitting on the ref is a very grave misconduct!!!
one reason football officiating does not improve much is that refs are not well protected by the pff. they suffer verbal abuse and physical intimidation from players at all levels and it affect their performance and judgement.
suspensions and fines for this erring footballers would surely boost the confidence and performance of our football refs!!!
