Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

A poll on NCAA/UAAP basketball players

We polled 30 players from the seniors divisions of the NCAA and the UAAP (90% of them are starters on their respective teams with the remainder in the second unit) on a variety of questions and here are a few of the things we found out:

Favorite NBA team:
1. Miami Heat
2. Los Angeles Lakers
3. Chicago Bulls
The Heat seemed like a runaway choice. Many of the respondents said that the pairing of Dwyane Wade and LeBron James in one team was a huge attraction. Most liked the Heat in passing but when their Big Three was put together they became huge supporters.

If they could play with a PBA team they’d like to suit up for:
1. Barangay Ginebra
2. Talk ‘N Text
3. Alaska
No surprise for me seeing Ginebra at number one, but I thought I’d see San Miguel/Petron right behind. But no. The Beermen/Blaze Boosters came in at fourth. TNT and Alaska seemed like preferred destinations. For TNT, they like the pace of the game and how many players get playing time. For Alaska, the players like the image of the organization and the players they have. I asked if a team winning a championship had an effect on their decision making and they said just a bit but it was more of many factors: the organization’s stability, the kind of players they have, and the coach.

Favorite basketball players:
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Derrick Rose
3. LeBron James
This was closer than anyone expected. Kobe led by just a few votes.

Favorite Gatorade flavor:
1. Tropical Fruit
2. Grape
3. Lemon Lime
