Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Gatorade's UAAP Brand Ambassadors

Year Two of the Gatorade Brand Ambassadors campaign. Just like last year, you will some billboards along EDSA, insert print ads in Rebound, Chalk, and others as well as school newspapers. This year, we picked out two players for several teams. For Ateneo, it's Kirk Long and Nico Salva. For La Salle, Tata Marata and Arnold Van Opstal. For FEU, RR Garcia and Al Ramos. For NU, it's Joseph Terso. For Adamson, Alex Nuyles returns. For UP, it's Mike Silungan. Then for UST, it's Jeric Teng. The only school without one is UE as they prefer Cobra.

The ad agency is DDB but the work is the product of many people including my team at GroupM. We also worked closely with the seven different UAAP schools.

This year's campaign was similar to trading cards. I think one of the magazines (published by Summit but I don't remember the title) has a special insert where one can remove the cards because of the perforated lines. Just like trading cards. Only this one is for college hoops. But if you're wondering where's the NCAA... yes, we also have NCAA players and a campaign for them.

Who are the repeat Brand Ambassadors? Long, Garcia, Teng, Nuyles, and Silungan. With Captain Kirk graduating, look for another Blue Eagle to join Salva for next year. In the meantime, go ahead and click on the images so you can save them.
