The Philippine Men's Football National Team was featured in an article in the Thursday edition of the Arab Times in Kuwait. It's an English daily. Got the team a few copies to show back home. Right, Misagh?
After breakfast at 9am, the team had a film viewing session (Kuwait vs Uzbekistan) at 1045 followed by lunch at the Philippine Embassy (which is located nearby). Coach Hans Michael Weiss caught up in his reading the Arab Times article. Below: the team hamming it up on the way to the Philippine Embassy.
Posing outside our Kuwaiti Embassy.
After lunch, the team went to The Avenues mall in Kuwait City's commercial center. It's this huge mall with huge stores. Wish we had time to really explore. But the team went to Go Sport specifically for the sale (as you can see from the picture below). The football boots were at 50% off! Ditto for the football jerseys. Got myself a Juventus (my fave Italian club) and Intermilan (so I can wear this to Ateneo games in the UAAP).
The sale means that the jerseys cost like Php 1,800! But we got ourselves an additional discount so it cost KD9 which is about Php 1,400. They had about 10 different ones - Juventus, Brasil, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, AC Milan, Intermilan (2 kinds), and a few others. The new season kits of course are at full price.
On the way back to the bus, these four Kuwaitis took notice of the Philippine jersey I was wearing. They opened up a discussion with me about the Saturday game between our two teams. Without being arrogant, they said that they were going to beat us 10-nil. Seriously! They even said that Phil Younghusband is no match for Bader Mutwa! Okay. All I know is we are not going to roll over and die.
Whoa, they still have the old FC Barcelona jersey!
ReplyDeleteThe stuff that are 50% off are from last season's wear.
ReplyDeleteSure some of our players will be no match one on one with their star players, but let's not forget it's a team game. It's good that they are expecting their team to score 10-nil. With the very high expectations that they putting on their players, it will surely backfire. Let's pray it will be like PHL-VIT game. We play best when we play as underdog. I'm expecting to see & hear a lot of frustrated Kuwaiti fans.
ReplyDeleteThe UNICEF logo in front is a keeper. I hate Barca's new kit.
