BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Above: With Al Riyadi's Jean Abdelnour who was a key acquisition for the Beirut club. Below is their long time head coach Fouad Abou Chakra who I renewed acquaintances in this tournament. In Jakarta three years ago, he actually thought I was the manager of Smart Gilas as I was oft with the team. He inquired then about prying away Mark Barroca and CJ Giles for their club. We talked a lot about Asian basketball then and along with Mario Palma, had some really great conversations. The current team manager was surprised yesterday at how much I knew about their team. Since  three years ago, I followed their team's exploits in various competitions.
