BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

You think he's making excuses?

The rebuilding begins now. Two seasons ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ season ended with a surprise ouster from Boston. And then there was The Decision. Followed by a season from first to one of the worst. Was there any relief on the horizon?

Now there is.

The Cavaliers with their good luck charm in Nick Gilbert, the son of owner Dan who is stricken with neurofibromatosis, won the NBA Draft Lottery by receiving the number one and four picks.

They’ll be able to rebuild in earnest by taking two very good and promising young players to complement Anthony Parker, Baron Davis, Anderson Varejao, and Antawn Jamison.

And give their fans something to cheer about. Instead of burn.
