BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Hanging out here in Iloilo

Just some random pics from our stay here in Iloilo. In the top pic, this was snapped after the Bacolod-Davao match at CPU.  In the picture below (taken at Barotac Nuevo), at the center is former Ateneo keeper RS Mantos and former La Salle midfielder Enrique Romero-Salas who both play for Davao.

After the Iloilo-NCR match (that the home side won in case you have been living under a tansan), we repaired to Nonong Araneta's family home just a stone's throw away from the football field. We had some food and drink with local and former PFF officials. Good food, Sir Nonong. Thanks!

Deo Segunial, Nathan Octavio, and Stephen Permanes after the early supper. Below Hans Smit, Nonong Araneta, Adolfo Alicante share a drink and a laugh as they recount their school days while playing for the varsity and the national team.

David Basa shares a light moment with Patrick Deyto, Don Rabaya, and Miguel Montelibano while Pablito Araneta chats away in the background.
