BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

It ain't such a bad place to be, Dennis Rodman.

I think it is just right that the Detroit Pistons decided to retire Dennis Rodman's number. In his seven years in the Motor City, he gave everything he had for the team and he was a massive part of those two title squads with the original Bad Boys. I certainly wish they'd do the same for him in Chicago (I don't think outside Ron Artest, there's another Bull who is going to wear #91) even if he spent only three years there. Those three years did result in three titles and they remain the last times the Bulls went to the NBA Finals. But congrats to the Worm for making it. Now onto the Hall of Fame. Photo by J.
