BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Where ya going, Ray and DJ?

Spoke to Bobby Parks and this is what he had to say, "Ray signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to go to Georgia Tech but he is still undecided because he has gotten close to the NU family."

Just looking at this, I think he will still go to Georgia Tech because he will have to sit out one more UAAP year. NU disputes this saying that he's good to go (some high school equivalency test). Three other UAAP schools will dispute this saying that he wasn't even here by June 2009 and could not have taken the proper two-year residency.

But... you'll never know. There's money involved here so....

And speaking of signing, I'm surprised at the way events have transpired in Derek Jeter's free agency. One on hand, I am surprised that New York is so business-like in dealing with this. On the other hand, $45 million for three years? Man, I can only even dream about a million dollars let alone that amount plus all he's made through the years. In this economy? I'd accept it.

Some football notes here -- the National Capital Region Football Association is going through some problems of their own. Some members are complaining that the elections for its new set of officers are being held in the incumbent president's home and residence (he is running for re-election). They are calling for the elections to be held in some neutral venue. Kind of appropriate, don't you think NCRFA? Do the right thing. We've had enough of the BS on the PFF level so keep your backyard clean.

So it is Joel Banal who will be the new head coach for Far Eastern University? And Ricky Dandan for State U? We'll find out.
