BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Pump up the jam by CC and co.

No one stepping up. No long innings from the starting pitchers. No Teixeira. No chance... or is there?

I do remember 1996 when New York lost their first two games at home to go to a 0-2 hole against the faux team of the decade, the Atlanta Braves. But they won the next four to take their first title since 1978.

Of course, baseball is different now. More Hispanics. More playoff rounds. Mo' money. At the very least, the Yankees have made a series out of it by sending it back to Texas. Thanks for a great outing, CC. That was some lift (if that is the last memory this season at the Stadium). I just sure hope they don't give the Rangers a chance to celebrate down there. photo by Jim McIsaac.
