BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Launching In the Huddle: the sports writing congress

Around 500 campus journalists from across the country are expected to join the Adventurer In the Huddle 1st National Sports Writing Congress on November 8, 10, and 12 at the JCSGO Seed Dome in Cubao, Quezon City. Sports writers and sports broadcasters will lecture delegates from elementary, secondary, and tertiary schools on "the Xs and Os" of sports journalism. The three-day congress is presented by Adventurer, makers of school supplies, and supported by Business Mirror, Active White, Sports Radio, Manila Standard Today, People's Journal, Full Court Fresh and the NCR Secondary School Paper Advisers Association. Sports media people who are giving talks include Bong Pedralvez, Tessa Jazmines, Patricia Hizon, TJ Manotoc, Tina Maralit, Jonas Terrado, Quincy Reyes, Noel Zarate, myself and many more. The press launch pushed through today (yes, we know that it coincided with the barangay elections) at Cubao. That's me with The Sports Insider's Noel Zarate, Full Court Fresh's Quincy Reyes, and Adventure's Rod Chua.
