BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Someone puts the cuffs on Cruyff

I think that former Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff should know better than to sound off about the Catalan club being at fault for Leo Messi’s injury. The Dutch football great opined that Barca’s inability to close out the match led to Messi being on the pitch longer than he needed hence the sloppy tackle by Atletico Madrid defender Tomas Ujafalusi. Barca won the match 2-1 and after x-rays, Messi just has a sprained ankle not a broken foot and thus he will be out for two matches or roughly two weeks.

Now heave a sigh of relief unless you’re from Madrid.

So it seems that Cruyff shot off his mouth needlessly. Pep Guardiola has the right to put who he feels on the field to get the job done and it’s not like every game will be a cakewalk because everyone wants to knock off the champs. If we could sift through Cruyff’s long career, I’m sure we can find some games where he stayed longer than he should.
Some help you are to Barcelona’s cause.
