BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

UP's protest is thrown out

In case you're wondering what happened to UP's protest over the non-lane violation call during the fifth free throw attempt by NU's Jewel Ponferrada to force a jump ball at center court, it has been thrown out. So the Fighting Maroons officially slump to a 0-10 record.

League commissioner Ato Badolato said it was a judgement call by the referees.

Sorry, Commish. They still have to call it. Even if it takes a hundred attempts by Ponferrada they still have to call it. But that sure took some balls for Boyet Fernandez to call that. That has to be one of the most comical if not infamous free throws attempts ever. But Diony Hipolito.... tough misses, man.

And what about those morons who called the Ateneo-La Salle match? That was a mighty suspicious fourth quarter.

Back to the Maroons. This is just one nightmare of a season. Even if they do win a game or two... I still think that this is worse than the 0-14 year simply because they are a much better team than the one in Joe Lipa's final year. Gotta feel bad for guys like Martin Reyes, Magi Sison, and Woody Co.

Team officials believe that Woody can still play a couple of games but Mark Lopez is done for the year after the ACL. Get well, brother.
