BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

UAAP Rookie: DLSU's Almond Vosotros

Now that is practically an unblockable shot. DLSU rookie Almond Vosotros was the game's best player in the win against NU where he was clutch. Vosotros averaged 2.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in the first round. Against the Bulldogs, he scored a career high 16 points. This kid from Albay, Bicol says that he idolizes LA Tenorio and Steve Nash. On playing on those great San Sebastian Staglets teams: "Galing noon! Best time talaga." On playing for La Salle: "Sana makatulong mag-champion." Great going, kid.

In the UAAP, FEU's Terence Romeo is leading the way for the Rookie of the Year followed by Ateneo's Art dela Cruz.
