BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Fit for the homestretch

From left to right: Ateneo's Kirk Long and Nico Salva, Adamson's Alex Nuyles, and Mapua's Andre Stevens.

During the NBA Training camp conducted by Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, these dudes were mighty impressive (along with FEU's Christian Sentchel-Sikam and Arvie Bringas and CSB's Jericho de Guzman). Alex Nuyles was dunking at every opportunity. In fact, it carried over into their next two games. Said "Airbender" Nuyles, "Na-inspire ako sa training camp. Hindi araw araw ka imbitahin sumama sa ganyan. Sobrang excited ko noong araw na yun."

Maybe next time it would help if entire teams are there to participate.

As good as the drills were, I wondered, "What's next? Will the coaches present continue this or implement this during their own training?" If not, then will it be a waste?

Coaches present during the afternoon session: Allan Caidic, Jong Uichico, Art dela Cruz, Ariel Vangaurdia, Bong Go, Nomar Isla, Gino Manuel, Oliver Bunye, Norman Black, Sandy Arespacochaga, Gabby Severino, and others. There were others especially during the morning session where Fritz Gaston and Mon Celis among others were present.
