BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

With teammates like this who needs enemies?

I wonder if the Mercedes GP team of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher will be similar to the Astana team of Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong. Of course Lance is now with Team Radioshack while Contador is still the main rider for Astana.

Said Contador, “Armstrong is a great and did a great Tour but on a personal level I have never admired him and never will.”

On the other hand, said Rosberg of Schumi, “My reaction to Michael being my teammate was positive… mostly.”

The return of both greats hasn’t exactly been very good (mostly Schumacher) in the standings but who would dare to count them out? I am so looking forward to the Tour de France and seeing how this pans out. I have a feeling that this year will be Lance's last whether he wins the tour or not.
