BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

What's in the works

My Monday column on K was a long time coming. That was supposed to get done in Season 71 but I never got around to it. The past Season 72, I missed the track events as I was abroad. So I had no excuse not to get it done this time. My other regret when it comes to track was not doing that piece on Marla Santos, Mica Sibayan, and Maita Mendoza. I lost my notes during Ondoy. Yep, some excuse.

This coming college basketball season, you'll read stuff on CSB, JRU, and CSLJ. As for the UAAP, there's UE, UP, NU, and Adamson.

For the fourth issue of Rebound, here's my stuff:
- my column, From the Parking Lot that is titled: A Point of Contention, Letran: Below the Radar, Mad Dogs and Joshua Webb, The Second Coming (on JP Erram and Jason Escueta), That Old College Try (Smart Gilas' college stars), and a short Letran preview.

On ateneo.edu by early June: the Ateneo Blue Eagles 2010 and a piece called "The Matrix."

Non-hoops: the Iron Man Triathlon in Cam Sur, the Azkals, and F1.

I'm taking a sabbatical to finish my book. Dammit.

Some questions here from email:
Q: Do I still buy compact discs? The answer is yes. I hardly download stuff. I upload my discs on to my iTunes.

Q: What do I think of Ateneo now? Well, it's still too early. The stakes are different when the UAAP season is here. But it is good they are finding their form and style.

Q: Where am I off to again? Hopefully, Cambodia and for sure Singapore late July to watch a band.

Q: Do I have backlog of reading material (books)? You betcha. Like two dozen books. What I am finishing now is Moneyball and A Season On the Brink.

Q: What DVD am I looking for? The original Clash of the Titans starring Harry Hamlin. I enjoyed that version better.
