BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Mine tangled thoughts II

Don't know what upsets me more -- the Cavs going home for the US summer or the Yankees losing three straight to surrender the AL lead to Tampa. But a bit of good cheer as Alex Rodriguez belted his 19th career Grand Slam to help NY beat Minnesota. LeBron... gave up. I have seen Kobe sulk on several occasions and pass up shots that didn't help his team's cause and so they lost. When LA lost to Boston two years ago, I wrote then that no way should Kobe ever be compared to MJ again. And for all of LeBron's otherworldy talent, he gave up. Did MJ ever give up? Nope. Not even during their sucky years. MICHAEL JORDAN IS WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST NBA PLAYER. Bill Russell is still the ultimate winner but he is not the best (c'mon they played two rounds back then before you were the champ). And I missed the get2gether our our Rebound crew last night at Raddy's house. So sorry but Club 8 was in town. Still thinking of the show. I've been to concerts by all my musical faves now except for U2. I've seen the Cure, Interpol, the Dave Matthews Band, Death Cab for Cutie, Ivy, Reel Big Fish, Versus, My Favorite, the Pixies, Rancid, the Ponys, and Broken Social Scene. I am sick of Phil Jackson's attempt at mind games with the refs, fans, media, and opposing team. I like the Lakers but here's to the Phoenix Suns knocking the champs off their high horse. I want another team to win. Either Orlando or Phoenix is fine with me. Raymond Domenech cut Karim Benzema from Les Bleus lineup in South Africa. I know Benzema did not play well in his first year in Madrid but Domenech you are still a lousy manager. Smart Gilas needs to get their act together. This team is in trouble. I am not a Boston Bruins fan but their collapse after being up 3-0 in a best-of-seven series. And what in the blue hell happened? Boston was up 3-0 in Game 7. They scored three goals in the first quarter but the Flyers came back. What a flick by Daniel Briere to tie the match for the Flyers. Then six players on the ice!!!! No way. Power Play. Goal by Simon Gagne for the win! What a collapse. Boston now you know what the Yankees felt in 2004. The Toronto Maple Leafs first did the trick in --- man, I don't know what year but they did against the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals!!!! The Finals. That is the ultimate collapse. Flop. Choke. And this one I know because I'm an Islanders fan. Ahem. The NY Islanders choked against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1975 in the quarterfinals. Then... ah, the Red Sox in 2004. Nevermind. Now the Flyers. In the four time this happened, three of them were in ice hockey. Yes, Yogi. It ain't over 'til it's over. Gave a talk this afternoon in the AAA's Marketing the Brand You Part II in AdMU. Have been feeling awful since yesterday so it took quite an effort to bring up the energy level and get the crowd laughing too. The attendance was great. Some 60+ peeps attended. Talked about making things work online and how they can be of great benefit to you. Unfortunately, I can't do that here in the blog. We're going to do another. Hope those who didn't attend can go next time. Writing my Monday column on fellow Atenean Jaymie Pizarro (yes, The Bull Runner). So I'm out for now while listening to China Crisis' Flaunt the Imperfection.
