BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Is the Sports Illustrated cover jinx upon the Yankees?

As of today, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera have been joined by Andy Pettitte on the injury list. That leaves Derek Jeter the only one available to finish their series' clinching win against the Baltimore Orioles.

Whether true or not, the timing sucks because New York heads over to Fenway Park for another series with the Bosox. The Yanks need to take care of business in Boston as they are half a game behind AL East leaders Tampa Bay who took over first place when NY faltered the other week in LA against the Angels.

And to think they are already missing Curtis Granderson! Time show up, Javy Vazquez.

In the meantime, read Tom Verducci's article on them here.
