BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Stan Van Gundy nails the NBA with a dagger

Yep, I agree with Stan Van Gundy. It really is all about the money. The first round should be a best-of-five series. The old format where there was only one day between travel was good enough. Even better, it was done in a little over a week.

But if those NBA skeds are obviously all about the money he should have seen Ateneo's UAAP Season 72 sked. That was about sticking it to them. Too bad it failed.

Now will the league fine the Orlando Magic head coach? I wouldn't be surprised. Gotta keep up that mom and pop PG-rated show for corporate sponsors and the folks watching at home now.
