BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Philip Warren Gertsson freestyle football @ Soccer Fiesta MOA

Philip Warren Gertsson is a Fil-Norwegian based in Sweden. The youngster is a European freestyle football champion and he's on vacation here before he heads on down to South Africa to judge a freestyle contest. He's competed and given clinics all over Europe. Gertsson happened by the Soccer Fiesta at Mall of Asia last Saturday and he gave a demo of his football skills. He was mobbed afterwards by people who watched. He came back for the second day to once more spread the gospel of freestyle. Cool, dude. Posted a pic with him on my Facebook. Will try to arrange a meet between him and Azkals coach Des Bulpin. Unless the PFF objects.

Now all that freestyle puts me in the mood for a lot of football.
