BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

IronKids Run Race @ Ateneo High

I've been sick since yesterday afternoon. I think I got it from this jerk who kept coughing like he was going to wheeze his guts out the day before at the Fil Oil Pre-season Invitational at the San Juan Arena. But I had committed to go and since I live nearby... it was a little easier to force myself to get up from sickbay. I think there were a little over a hundred participants for the second leg of the Alaska IronKids. This is the second Run Race with the first held at the Manila Polo Club last February. The next one is an aquathlon at the Manila Polo Club this May. The E-Cow, Alaska's PBA mascot was fooling around and I challenged him to a 3K race and chugging down a bottle of Gatorade in the fastest time. He accepted! He, it, after all, is the IronCow! Hahaha!
Fuel injection, Gatorade style.
This kid, Alex Ballester, ran the 3K in 10:43. He flat out killed everyone. Never slacked off in his pace that was costant. He even caught up with the tailend completing one lap before they even did. Incredible!
This kid won the 2K race.
