BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Pure genius! I love it.

No, I haven't switched side in the Merseyside Derby. I'm still and forever will be a Liverpool fan. But I did follow Landon Donovan's move to Everton. So that gives you an idea that I am rooting for the Americans to make a splash in the World Cup.

This shirt that is pure genius is a tip of the hat to the late lamented punk rock band The Clash and their magnificent album London Calling.

Me should get this!

"London calling to the underworld.
Get out of the cupboard you boys and girls."

And you might want to check out Grant Wahl's column in Sports Illustrated.
