BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

At the end of the day's it's just a game

Members of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons huddled at center court of the Quicken Loans Arena after their match to offer some prayers to Rodney Stuckey who collapsed and had to be taken out of the venue to a hospital. Reports have it that the Piston player is stable. No word as to what happened to him.

This happened one day after the 20th anniversary of the death of Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers. Boston Celtics star Reggie Lewis also died while playing a pick up game of hoops on July 27, 1993.
