BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

10 good things about today in spite of the yawner of a fight (no thanks to Joshua Clottey)

1. It was great to see Manny Pacquiao in action. I wonder why these bozos on television are wondering how Manny could retain his speed despite moving up weight classes? Did Manny gain a ton? Did he become as fat as Buboy Fernandez that to lose weight he's going to need a liposuction? Excusez moi. The weight classes he moves up and down to go up by only a few pounds.

2. It still is fun to watch mega-fights with a lot of people around you even if some of them turn into blow-by-blow announcers when you could see the action plainly for yourself.

3. Ginebra San Miguel gave out postcards of Krista Ranillo and Cobra Energy Drink gave out calendars of Christine Reyes. I love cheesecake stuff. Bwahaha.

4. I got to eat at Charlie's Grind and Grill in Kapitolyo on the way home. Angus beef burgers with veggies and shrooms! Yahoo.

5. The performance by the newest girl band in town --- the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders!

6. Freddie Roach telling Buboy to shut his hole.

7. Manny bonking Clottey on his ears! C'mon, man... fight!

8. Meeting up with my friends from Solar Sports.

9. In a sea of noypis, seeing two Africans both wearing shirts with the flag of Ghana cheering for Clottey.

10. Now for Mayweather! Do it right, chicken.
