BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Shooting Stars & More Than A Game

Saw More Than A Game for the first time and it's a nice companion piece to the book Shooting Stars by LeBron James and HG Bissinger. It tells of James' teammates from their AAU days all the way to moving to St. Vincent's-St. Mary's. I really wasn't a fan of James early on despite his obvious talent. But then again, I didn't jump for the hoops for Michael Jordan as well. Years later, all I can say is what a phenomenal talent James is! And what a great story too. The DVD is now available locally and it clocks it at about 1 hour and 30 minutes with a lot of great footage that most of us have never been privy to unless you saw Sportscenter in those days.
