Sometime before Typhoon Ondoy hit last year, a friend of mine lent me a book that he swore was a bloody good read. That was David Peace's "The Damned Utd."
I knew my friend is a Manchester United fan so I almost had a cow that he was lending me a book about the Red Devils. Only it wasn't. It was Leeds United based on fictionalized version of events by the club's then controversial and uncouth manager Brian Clough during his 44-day stint in 1974 with the team.
It has been adapted for film but I have yet to read the book or watch the film that is now available in DVD. Many others I know swear it's a good one. So I'll be watching it this weekend. You might want to check it out as well.
I've read quite a few football books, mostly on my Liverpool, but also have picked up novels about Arsenal, Brazil, Pele, and David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy. For sure, I'll be reading David Peace's book.
