BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

The Blue Eagles @ the White Hat Shang

The Ateneo Blue Eagles made a guest appearance at the White Hat booth at the Shagri-La EDSA Saturday afternoon (Feb 13). They hoped to serve 1,000 cups of fat free ice cream with half of the earnings going to the AHON Foundation that in turn provides educational books to public schools.
With Norman Black and Paolo Trillo. Spent some time catching up with Coach on Ateneo basketball. Man, am I so outside the loop now. Thanks for reading, Coach and it sure is nice to know that you're a fan of the New York Yankees. Let's go for a three-peat (Ateneo) and #28 (New York)! Kirk Long shook his head and smirked when we talked about the Yankees. If I'm not mistaken, Long is a fan of the Kansas City Royals (did I get that right, Kirk?). I'll be sitting down with Coach Norm this week on some Blue Eagle basketball stuff. So there!
My order -- large vanilla with mangoes and candy sprinkles. Pretty good and it's fat free!
The players took turns serving ice cream every 20 minutes. Top: Eric Salamat and Juami Tiongson and below Justin Chua teamed up with Vince Burke. At the time I left (to go to the San Juan Arena), there were 100+ already. Lots more to go. Hope we hit the target, dudes.
