BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Short work. Long game.

Ateneo Women's Volleyball Team Captain Kara Acevedo walks to the back to serve as her side was down two sets to none to the defending champions DLSU. If there was some great volleyball, it was only in moments far and few in between mostly uninspired and error-filled volleyball by Ateneo. But give credit to the Lady Archers for putting up a nice defensive wall at the net. They swept the Ateneo women in three sets 25-17, 28-26, 25-23. DLSU is atop the standings at 2-0 (tied with Adamson) while Ateneo is at 4th and tied with three other squads (UE, UST, and FEU). National University and the University of the Philippines are at the bottom with identical 0-2 slates.

Ironically, both Ateneo volleyball teams have 1-1 records with the wins and losses coming via straight sets.
