BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

It's his Time

This confirms that he has arrived. Manny Pacquiao on the cover of Time magazine. His first time on the cover and it's even bigger than the first time U2 made the news mag's cover.

Howard Chua-Eoan's story is objective and skirts many other issues and matters but that's not bad because this isn't a rag to begin with. And you gotta love the cover shot as well as the sparring session pic by Dewey Nicks. Great photography, my man.

And the best quote, this one from Freddie Roach: "I just did one round with mitts with him , and I thought, 'This motherF can fight.'"

Not a bad read. Get your issue for 120 bucks.
