BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Hopefully, this new effort will be RUN much better

Twenty-two thousand runners joined the Run for the Ilog Pasig yesterday, Sunday. Congratulations to ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Gina Lopez for the effort to rehabilitate the Pasig River. Years and years ago, I worked on the advertising campaign for the Clean & Green Foundation and its Piso Para Sa Pasig. I always wondered whatever came of that and the money that went it? I still have the color and black and white proofs of our center spread ads that also mentioned plans to buy boats from Italy that would clean the river. So what happened? I think the people deserve an accounting of the money that went in since there were no tangible changes (in fact, it got even worse). One of those other projects then was creating all those parks beside the river and the lighting of the bridges that connect both sides of the river. So was it a success or a failure because I believe it's the latter.  Hopefully, under the new foundation, they will get it right. Hirap kasi meron pang pa-dinner dinner diyan when it's all for show.
