BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

One on one with NBA Greats

When I was told that I was one of the few journalists to get an exclusive interview with the NBA legends I jumped so high I dunked the ball right through the hoop. Okay I didn't. I can only touch the rim but now that I'm 20 pounds overweight -- jeez. Anyways, I knew we couldn't interview all so I prayed that I'd get Vlade and Nique. Well, I got both and was able to get some good interview time with Tim Bug and Big Shot Rob. I'm a huge Vlade Divac fan and Christmas came sort of early. I'll have to transcribe the interview. Some of his quotes appear in my piece that's out in Business Mirror. But I got great quotes and stories.

I've got my own highlight with The Human Highlight Film. I was like a kid clapping and grinning all throughout. If you think I was having fun then you should have seen me rebound for Manu Ginobili. On the same court with the great Ginobili. With Nique, we talked about the Hawks and the Celtics. Great guy who gave a great interview. He should have been on the 1992 Dream Team. Instead we had Christian Laettner.

Tim Bug. Mr. UTEP 2 Step. Progenitor of .07 Seconds or Less aka Run-TMC. Funny guy with fab quotes. My first ever NBA jersey was a Golden State Warriors #17 of Chris Mullin (thanks, Melanie Jordin) and I always wanted to have a Tim Hardaway jersey too. Instead I have his Skybox rookie card. It's going to be fun transcribing the interviews all of which I have on video.
Thanks too to Hardball's Boyet Sison for the kind words. It's real real cool when your peers read Brew. By the way, I have more pictures in my facebook page.
