BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Monday Zingers

The New York Giants began the new NFL season by taking out the Washington Redskins 23-17. NYTD Blue also beat the Redskins in the opener of the previous campaign. Eli Manning & Mario Manningham! Whooo!

Liverpool got their season back on track with a 4-nil win over Burnley thanks to a hat trick by midfielder Yossi Benayoun and a solo strike by Dirk Kuyt.

You have to see the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos. What an unbelievable ending. The Paul Brown Stadium was eerily quiet after that.

The New York Yankees avoided a sweep at the hands of the cellar-dwelling Baltimore Orioles by taking the third game 13-3 to go to 92-52 for the year. Twenty games left. The Yanks have a chance to get a 100 wins and wrap up the best record in Major League Baseball (they are up by 7 against the LA Dodgers on the best win-loss total).

FC Barcelona beat Getafe 2-0 to remain unbeaten also at 2-0 in the Spanish La Liga.
