BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Yanks sweep Red Sox via Home Run Derby

Number two and three respectively in the batting order, Johnny Damon and Mark Teixiera hit back-to-back home runs;the sixth time it has happened this year.

But Alex Rordriguez started it all after finding a chink in Jon Lester's armor with a home run of his own to open the scoring as the Yankees got a 5-2 win to complete a four-game series sweep at the Bronx. New York is up with a 6 1/2 game lead over Boston. They have not lost an AL division championship chase with a 6-game lead.
