BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Have fun, guys!

The 76-45 New York Yankees are in Boston for a weekend series with the 69-51 Red Sox before heading home to the Big Apple. The game is tomorrow morning (Manila time) but first some members of the team are off to watch a concert by the recently reunited band Creed. It might not sound like it's a big deal but it's all about camaraderie. Earlier during the year, the team went to watch NBA games and the senior players have been picking up the tabs for team dinners. And there are the new traditions in the clubhouse where a replica WWE Championship belt is passed to the best player for every Yankees win. Then there's AJ Burnett's cream pie facial on the player chosen by the TV panel as the best player. It's easily the closest team they've had since 2004. Let's go, Bombers.
