BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Back2Back or Hey, is this a good sign?

Members of Ateneo's first UAAP champion teams -- the back-to-back 1987 & 1988 squads -- were present during last Sunday's Ateneo-La Salle game. From left to right: Eric Reyes, Albert Mendoza, Raymond Morales, team manager Cyril Soriano (in back), Danny Francisco, Rico Santiago, Olsen Racela, team manager Joey Dungca, and Jet Nieto. One member was on the court, Gene Afable, Assistant Coach to Norman Black. Gene has been a part of every Ateneo UAAP title squad either as a player or as a coach. Beat that! Thanks to Janina Dizon for the photo that will also appear in the Ateneo alumni website.
