BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

UAAP Week #2 Notes

UAAP Reporter’s Notebook #2

When UST beat NU last Thursday July 16, 2009 104-89, it was the first 100-point game since August 13, 2006 when the Bulldogs beat the Maroons 107-104.

That same 2006 Season, Ateneo beat UST 114-78 in first round on August 6. Then prior to that, Adamson beat NU 116-103 on July 10, 2005.

Adamson Falcon Alex Nuyles dislocated his right shoulder following a collision with UP’s Mikee Reyes. He will be out for at most two weeks and return right before the end of the first round.

Best dunk of the young season: UST's Khasim Mirza on Nico Salva of Ateneo.

Runner-up: Adamson’s Alex Nuyles on UP.

Best stat lines of Week Two:

Rabeh Al-Hussaini, ADMU - 27 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block vs. UE

Dylan Ababou, UST - 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists vs. NU

Khasim Mirza, UST - 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists vs. NU

Reil Cervantes, FEU - 11 points and 13 rebounds vs. DLSU

Melvin Baloran, NU – 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals vs. UE

After posting 37 turnovers against NU in their season opener, UP committed only 22 to Adamson’s 23. They still lost with four crucial turnovers in the final two minutes.

De La Salle lost its second consecutive game to open the season. The last time that happened was during their league debut in 1986.
